🎯 Sınavda nasıl karşımıza çıkar
ÖSYM'nin yaptığı sınavlarda dolaylı anlatım genellikle iki şekilde test edilir: (1) tek cümlelik dilbilgisi/cloze sorularında, bir reporting verb'ün (say, tell, ask, suggest, warn, remind, deny, admit...) doğru kalıpla ve doğru zaman kaydırmasıyla tamamlanması istenir; (2) doğrudan anlatımdaki bir cümlenin dolaylı anlatıma çevrilmiş, söz dizimi ve zaman uyumu bakımından tek doğru seçeneğin bulunması istenir. Dolaylı sorularda (reported questions) devrik yapının düzleşmesi ayrı bir tuzak noktasıdır. Cümle tamamlama ve paragraf tamamlama sorularında da bağlam içinde 'he explained that...', 'she wondered whether...' gibi yapılarla karşımıza çıkar.
🔑 Çözüm stratejisi
- Önce reporting verb'ün zamanına bak: main clause (reporting verb) present/present perfect ise, that-clause'daki zaman genellikle DEĞİŞMEZ ('She says she is tired' → 'She says that she is tired'). Reporting verb past ise, backshift devreye girer: present → past, past → past perfect, present perfect → past perfect, will → would, can → could, may → might.
- Backshift'in İSTİSNASINI unutma: aktarılan bilgi hâlâ geçerli/genel bir gerçekse (evrensel doğru, değişmeyen durum) zaman kaydırma opsiyoneldir: 'He said that the Earth revolves around the Sun' da kabul edilir.
- say ve tell'i ayır: tell mutlaka bir NESNE (kime söylendiği) alır — 'He told me that...'; say nesne almaz veya 'to sb' ile kullanılmaz (yanlış: 'He said me'; doğru: 'He said to me' ya da sadece 'He said that...').
- Dolaylı sorularda (reported questions) söz dizimi DÜZ CÜMLE sırasına döner (özne-yüklem), yardımcı fiil devrik kalmaz ve soru işareti kalkar: 'Where does she live?' → 'He asked where she lived' (NOT 'where did she live').
- Yes/No sorularda if/whether bağlacı eklenir: 'Are you coming?' → 'She asked if/whether I was coming.'
- Emir ve rica cümleleri to-infinitive ile aktarılır, reporting verb ask/tell/order/advise + nesne + to-V kalıbını alır: 'Close the door.' → 'He told me to close the door.' Olumsuz emirde 'not to V' kullanılır: 'He told me not to be late.'
- Zaman ve yer zarflarının dönüşümüne dikkat et: now→then, today→that day, tomorrow→the next day/the following day, yesterday→the day before/the previous day, here→there, this→that, these→those. Ayrıca reporting verb'e özgü kalıpları ezberle: suggest + that-clause (should) veya suggest + Ving (suggest doing, NOT suggest to do); admit + Ving/that; deny + Ving/that; warn sb + about sth / warn sb + not to V; remind sb + to V/that.
⚠️ Sık tuzaklar
- 'suggest to do' hatası: suggest asla to-infinitive almaz; doğrusu 'suggest doing' veya 'suggest that + subject + (should) + V'.
- Dolaylı soruda yardımcı fiil devriğinin korunması: 'He asked where did I live' YANLIŞ; doğrusu 'He asked where I lived'.
- say + nesne kullanımı: 'He said me that...' YANLIŞ; 'tell' gerekir ya da 'say to me'.
- Backshift'in gereksiz yere sürekli evrensel gerçeklere de uygulanıp anlam çelişkisi yaratılması ya da tam tersi, geçmişte söylenmiş ama artık geçerli olmayan bir bilgide backshift'in atlanması.
- Zaman/yer zarflarının (this, here, now, tomorrow) dolaylı anlatımda değiştirilmeden bırakılması, böylece cümlenin bağlamla çelişmesi.
✍️ Kuralı gösteren örnek
In the seminar, the visiting scholar explained that her latest study had revealed a significant correlation between urban green space and public well-being. (Reporting verb 'explained' geçmiş zaman olduğu için 'has revealed' → 'had revealed' backshift'i uygulanmıştır.) One of the attendees asked whether the sample size had been large enough to support such a claim. (Yes/No soru 'whether' ile aktarılmış, söz dizimi düz cümleye dönmüştür: 'had been', devrik değil.) The scholar admitted that the sample could have been larger, but she denied having ignored other confounding variables. (deny + Ving kalıbı kullanılmıştır.) She then suggested conducting a follow-up study the following year to verify the results. (suggest + Ving; 'next year' → 'the following year' zaman zarfı dönüşümü.) Finally, she reminded the audience to submit their questions in writing before the session ended. (remind sb + to V kalıbı.)
